AS STRANGER in a strange land, Ruth could not have known much about life in Israel. So at the beginning of her short courtship with Boaz, she had little idea of what to expect. She must have felt unsure, uneasy, and more than a little frightened. Yet from the very beginning, Boaz demonstrated himself to be a godly man as a strong character who would certainly keep his word, whatever it was. When marriage to him became a district possibility, it must have reassured her to hear Naomi say, “The man will not rest until he has concluded the matter this day” (Ruth 3:18).
